The Prince George’s Judo Club is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to the promotion of judo as a sport and the physical and personal development of today’s youth through the sport of judo. To accomplish these purposes, the club, under the direction of Edwin Y. Takemori, holds classes for beginner through advanced judo students, conducts educational and self-defense Judo demonstrations, sponsors summer judo camps through the Department of Parks and Recreation, and runs several tournaments and clinics every year. Visitors are always welcome to observe classes and tournaments.

Tournaments sponsored by the Prince George’s Judo Club are: The Faye Allen Memorial Kata Championship and the James Burrell Team Championship, held the first Saturday of March, and The Prince George’s Judo Junior and Senior Invitational, held the first Saturday of December. The Club also hosts the Capital Games Judo Championship in June and the Maryland State Championship in October. All tournaments are held at the Glenn Dale Community Center in Glenn Dale, Maryland.

Regular judo clinics sponsored by the Prince George’s Judo Club are: the August Scoring Table Workshop with Mock Shiai, Fall and Spring Kata Clinics (different Katas are presented each session) usually in June and September. A number of other judo clinics, like refereeing and coaching, are presented as need arises. Self-defense workshops and informational demonstrations are held for other organizations and groups upon request.
